Brickwork & concrete bases
Solid foundations for whatever comes next.
Level, square concrete bases for sheds, garden rooms, oil tanks and hot tubs, and neat brickwork for walls, piers, steps and raised beds.
Brickwork & Concrete Bases
Get the base right and everything else follows.
Whatever you are putting on it, a base needs to be level, square and strong enough for the load. Get it wrong and doors stick, floors bounce and water sits where it shouldn’t.
We dig out, lay and compact a hardcore sub-base, shutter it to the exact size, and pour concrete to the depth the job needs. For brickwork, everything goes up on a proper footing with clean, consistent joints.

The detail
How we do it.
The parts of the job that don’t show in the photos, but make all the difference over time.
Sized to the building
We size the base to the shed or garden room you are buying, with any overhang or margin the manufacturer asks for.
Level and square
Shuttering is set level and checked corner to corner before the concrete goes in, so the building sits true.
Compacted hardcore
A well-compacted sub-base under the concrete stops settling and cracking later on.
Depth for the load
Heavier loads such as hot tubs and garden rooms get a thicker slab, and reinforcement where it is needed.
Brickwork on footings
Walls and piers are built on concrete footings, with matched bricks and neat joints that suit the house.
Time to cure
We tell you how long to leave the concrete before your building goes on, so it reaches proper strength first.
Questions
Brickwork & Concrete Bases: FAQs
Can’t see your question? Call 07935 762559 or drop us an email.
For a typical shed, around 100mm of concrete on a compacted hardcore sub-base is usual. Garden rooms, workshops and hot tubs carry more weight and normally need a thicker slab, sometimes with reinforcement. We will specify the right depth for what you are putting on it.
Current guidance says an oil tank base should extend at least 300mm beyond the tank on every side, and be level and non-combustible. We build tank bases and plinths to suit the tank you have, and can tidy up the area around it at the same time.
Concrete needs time to cure. A light shed can usually go on after a few days, but for heavier buildings we recommend waiting longer. We will give you a clear date with your quote.
Yes. We can dig in, build up the low side with blockwork or brickwork, or put in a small retaining wall, depending on the slope and what looks best.
